The Prince Henry Hospital Trained Nurses Association’s Nursing and Medical Museum came into being as the result of the need to preserve our nursing and medical history. Sister Frances McLeod was appointed to collect , preserve and present the Nursing and Medical Museum displays.

In 1990 Sr McLeod collected the materials to be used for the displays and the museum opened its doors to the public in the old Nurses Lecture Hall ( left) in 1991.

There it remained happily for a number of years until it moved to the Flowers Ward 2 (Ward 19) in 1996. By this time a new person had taken over the reigns .Her name was Maylean Cordia. She was the daughter of a premier Mr R.Heffron (Member for Maroubra) .

In 2001 when the Hospital was closing down and all of its departments were being gradually moved over to the Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick the then Premier Mr R.Carr decided that as part of the sale of the land to create a new suburb it would be good idea to keep part of the hospital's history alive for future generations to see .

He did this by having Flowers Ward 1 (Ward 18)( below) restored and brought back to its original 1914 era state. Although the building remains in public ownership, that is to say that the NSW State Government still owns it , he granted the rights to use the building and to run it as the Nursing and Medical Museum to The Prince Henry Hospital Trained Nurses Association Inc.

On the 6th of November 2003 , after being renovated back to its original state, the Nursing And Medical Museum was opened to the public in Flowers Ward 1 (Ward 18) by Mr R.Carr with Mrs Maylean Cordia as its inaugural Managing Director This is where it remains located today.
